A Free Newspaper Save the Date for Your Wedding

A newspaper save-the-date with the wedding announcement as the lead story

A front page dated your wedding day, sent to your guests months before it. The lead story announces the wedding from your answers, and the real events of that day in past years fill the page around it. It takes about a minute, and you can make and download the whole front page free.

Which date to use

Your wedding day, up to two years from today. For a wedding that has already happened, the anniversary newspaper makes the page dated that day.

Your wedding announcement, above the fold

The lead story announces the wedding in its first paragraph: both names, the date, the place, and a request that guests keep the day free. Then it tells how you met and how it was asked, in the tone you choose.

The history of your date

The rest of the page is what happened on your wedding day in past years. A June 12 page, for instance, can carry the Supreme Court's 1967 ruling in Loving v. Virginia.

What you need

Both your names and the date. A photo and a few details about the two of you are optional and make the lead story yours rather than anyone's.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead can we make it?

Up to two years before the wedding. Most couples send a save-the-date six to nine months ahead, so you can make the page as soon as the date is set.

Can we make a newspaper wedding announcement after the wedding?

Yes, with the anniversary newspaper. It is dated your wedding day and reports the wedding as that morning's news.

Is it a template we fill in ourselves?

No. You answer a few questions about the two of you and we write the page.

Can it be our engagement announcement?

Yes, once the date is set. The lead story says who is marrying, when and where, which is what an engagement announcement in a newspaper says.

How do we send a newspaper save the date?

Send guests a link to the page, or email them the download. To post it, hand the high-resolution file to a print shop; plain matte paper looks most like newsprint.

Can it be our wedding invitation?

It is written as a save-the-date: the lead story asks guests to keep the day free, with the invitation to follow. For the day itself, the wedding newspaper is a four-page paper to hand your guests.

Whose names go on the page?

Both. The wizard asks for each of your names, and the masthead and the lead story carry them together.

What does the lead story say?

It is your wedding announcement. The first paragraph gives both names, the date and the place, and asks guests to keep the day free, with the invitation to follow. Then it tells how you met and how it was asked, written from your answers.

Can we add our own photo?

Yes. Upload an image under 3MB and it runs with the lead story in vintage print. You confirm you have the right to use the photo before the page is typeset.

Can we change the wording once we have seen it?

Duplicate the edition in your library and the duplicate is fully editable: copy, photos, fonts, themes and the page grid.

What does it cost?

Nothing. The page is free to make and free to download, with no watermark and nothing to pay at the end.

Does it work for a wedding outside the United States?

Yes. The history on the page is drawn from events reported around the world, so a save-the-date for a British, Irish or Australian wedding fills the same way. The download works from anywhere.

Is it a file, or something you post to us?

A file. The page is a high-resolution download, ready to email to guests or hand to a print shop.
